Come see the "Sipriz"

Come see the "Sipriz", (i.e. "Surprise") a hand-built 21'wooden sloop, built in Haiti and sailed for 6 weeks by our own Geert van der Kolk, Dutch novelist and member of Tall Timbers Marina. He sailed from Cacoq, Haiti to Miami, Florida with stops for supplies in the Bahamas. The boat represents Haitian boat-building techniques and arts and crafts of Haiti. Van der Kolk was attempting to reconstruct the plight and experiences of Haitian boat people attempting to escape poverty.

The boat will be on display at Tall Timbers Marina temporarily until it is moved to either the marine museum in Mystic, Connecticut or the Maritime Museum in Newport News, Virginia.
